QR codes engineered for things that are printed once and used for years

Permanent QR Codes makes editable QR codes for packaging, equipment and other physical print where reprinting is expensive and a dead link is not an option.

Most QR code software is built for marketing campaigns that last a few weeks. Physical products work on a different clock. A label stays on a product for its whole shelf life, a nameplate stays on a machine for decades, and a printed book stays on someone's shelf long after the campaign that produced it.

We built Permanent QR Codes for that second clock. Each code is a single purchase with unlimited scans and a destination you can change at any time, so the printed pattern never has to be replaced because a website moved or a subscription lapsed.

What we focus on

Physical print longevity

A QR code on a carton, a nameplate or a book is expected to work for as long as the object exists. We design for that lifespan: no renewal date on the redirect, an editable destination when your web pages move, and print guidance that keeps the pattern readable after years of handling.

Packaging engineering

Packaging puts a code on a curved, glossy, folded or shrink-wrapped surface that ships in volume and sits on shelves for months. We size codes for real scanning distance, keep the encoded address short so modules stay coarse, and plan for the move to 2D barcodes at retail checkout.

Vector specifications

Prepress needs geometry, not pixels. Every code exports as SVG and EPS vector files plus 300 DPI PNG, so a printer can scale it from a 0.8 inch label to a large sign without resampling, with the quiet zone and error correction set before the file leaves our system.

High-durability hardware and manufacturing

Equipment tags are engraved, etched and exposed to grease, heat and cleaning chemicals for the life of the machine. We recommend high error correction for these surfaces and keep the destination editable, so manuals, safety data sheets and service records can move without re-tagging a single asset.

The specifications we work to

Our product defaults and our guides are checked against the same rules a print production team would use.

ISO/IEC 18004
The international QR code specification our symbol generation and print guidance follow.
0.8 x 0.8 in (2 x 2 cm)
Our minimum recommended size for handheld scanning, scaled up with distance.
4-module quiet zone
Blank margin on every side, built into exported artwork.
Error correction L, M, Q, H
Level H for engraved, outdoor and high-wear surfaces.
SVG, EPS, 300 DPI PNG
Vector masters for prepress, raster for quick proofs.

Why we sell codes as assets, not subscriptions

A printed QR code depends on the redirect behind it. If that redirect is tied to a monthly plan, every carton and nameplate depends on someone remembering to renew. We charge once per code, keep scans unlimited, and let you export your full registry as CSV whenever you want.

The perpetual license is transferable if your company is sold or your agency changes, and our permanent guarantee sets out the notice and migration commitments if we ever close.
